H.A.R.D.D. Summer Reflection:
During my time in H.A.R.D.D. Summer, there was an activity we experienced challenges of learning experiences on our first year at PCC. We had to make a study plan in how we can achieve and accomplish our goals. Basically my study plan in finishing my first year in PCC was to get as much help as possible in what major suits me better, what college I should be focusing on to transfer, taking the advantage of tuoring in order to pass my classes, never take to much units that could easily drop my GPA, seek help in tutoring centers, and talk with couches or counsulers for guidance. Comparing the first year til now, I would saw I did accomplish some of my goals while others I havent yet.
When I first came to PCC, at first my major was Art Therapy, but then after doing more reseach in college and some advices from my father and friends, I didn't feel like Art therapy wasn't my calling. I changed it later on to Animation Arts because I felt more connection to that major instead of the other. I was glad to start off at a community college intead of a university because then it would be just a waste of money and study if I chose that major instead of the major I am studying. I was very lost in what art college I should transfer to as well. My choses were USC, UCLA, Otis, Pasadena Art College, or etc, but I still didn't know which to chose. Thankfully I had a couch in Pathways who helped me use websites to see which is a good, close to home, and not to expensive school. I found out USC and UCLA weren't the colleges I should be looking at, so I went to the counselor to seek for more guidance. The counsler I had thankfully knows more about the art colleges than no other. Otis and a college in Hollywood where probably the best options in educational, cheap expensive, and close to home. With the gudiance of the couch and counsuler, it gave me a better view in what major and college suits me the most to transfer and study.
The challenges I had to expereince would have to be the units that causes an affect in my GPA. In my first semster in college, I easily passed all my classes and my GPA was well stabled and balanced as well. It was until second semster that I saw the struggle I had. I only had at least 4 classes, but my math class had the most GPA unit points than the others, which causes a dramatic change to my GPA. Although I did pass the class with a C, it still changed my GPA, but not in a bad way nor a good way either. I am still in honors level, but after what happened, I know I need to change my strategy and figure out how I should rasie my GPA in the next semester. I thought about tutoring, but that wasn't helpful at all since the tutors didn't seem to have the ability to actually help or at least give the students who need help an advice or a hint on the homework or project. So, I thought of another statagey and use the online tutoring website, which actually worked. They helped me and explain the problem I had carefully and understand for me to actually start see what I did wrong. Til this year, I'm still using the online tutoring and it has been quite helpful instead of the math tutoring in PCC.
Since then, I've been helping helping my friends out in anyway possible I can do. When they need advice in what or where would be the best for tutoring help, I suggested them the online tutoring website instead of the PCC website. It's more resourceful and helpful than the tutoring in the campus. But, for a study place, the library or the TLC building are the best choices to use if they want a quite place to study or a study group. There are private rooms or professional mentors/tutors in the TLC building to help students in anything they need help on school work or questions they have about the campus or personal life. The libaray is quite helpful as well for a resource place if researching on a project or to have a study group form in a room. After giving this advice to my friends and classmates, it was quite effective during our time in college. With my strategy plan that I developed in my Summer Jam and as well in H.A.R.D.D summer camp, it let me have both the pros and cons in how I can achieve my goals after expereincing in my first year and using my stratgey plan to be successful and achieve my goals in my second year in college.
