Mentoring Reflection:
Reflect (Before matching with my mentee): During the mentoring training, i learned quite a lot of important information in what is a mentor. At first, I thought a mentor is just mentoring a young apprentice in following your footsteps, but then I learned it's about giving them the wisdom and support to the mentee for their can achieve their goal and help them in any way possible. I learned many pros and cons in what a mentor should and shouldn't do. It allowed me to have a better understanding in what is a mentor and how are you able to help your mentees when it's time to have a face to face conversation with them. I really enjoyed the activities and also meeting some of the other mentors who have a common situation or interest as I have. The readings were quite interesting as well.
My goals for this coming mentoring process is to help and give the helpful advice i can possibly give to my mentee. The skills and qualities I have that would make me a good mentor is communication with others, the understanding and knowledge to help the individual in any problems they have encountered with in their lives, very respectful and supportive to others, and having the ability of friendship to always be there for the person in anyway possible. The areas I think I need to develop to be a good mentor is to become wiser, provide guidance, motivating others, and constructive feedback for others. I maybe able to help them in any situations I can possibly can but I feel that maybe I should do more than just being there for them. I should give them guidance or motivate them in life in the path they should be focusing on instead of taking the wrong path in life they will reject taking. Some of the strengths that I will bring to a mentoring relationship are communication with others, friendship, support, and a understanding in how to get in a better path through college. One of my worries about being a mentor is how the student would disrespect me, are not determine, or do not take me serious where i am trying to help them through college. I hope to gain from being a mentor is being a supportive and great leader that the student will feel comfortable and understanding in their first years of college. The most important thing I hope my mentee will gain is to become a responsible and successful in life. I also hope the mentee will never give up on their dreams and goals in their educational or personal life.
